5 Tips for a stress free moving day

It’s well documented that moving house is one of life’s most stressful events. It’s not just the worry of finding the perfect property for sale in Southend-on-Sea, or packing then unpacking all of your belongings, but for some, there’s also the stress of leaving behind an old home. Luckily, the experience doesn’t have to be too traumatic. Follow these simple tips for an easy transition:

  1. Be kind to yourself. You know it’s going to be a busy time with a lot of extra tasks on the to-do list (call the best estate agent in Southend, find a good removals company, ask someone to look after the cat, find a locksmith) and uncertainties (where’s the closest supermarket? What’s the best route for my new commute?), so brace yourself for chaos. If you expect a few frantic weeks and assume a few things will go wrong, you’ll be prepared for some upheaval when it does happen.
  2. Plan accordingly. Clear your diary and leave yourself plenty of time to pack, rather than starting at 8pm the night before the move. If you’re still searching for your perfect property for sale in Southend, have a contingency plan: If all else fails and you can’t secure your new home before you need to move, can you stay with family for a few weeks and put your belongings into storage? Enlist family and friends to help with the move itself so the process is less daunting.
  3. Say goodbye to your old home. It might sound silly, but even if you’re moving into your dream property, it can be hard to leave the old one behind. Mark the occasion by doing something special, throwing a goodbye party, cook yourself a special last meal, take photos of your old bedroom. You’ll feel more satisfied when you close your old front door for the last time.
  4. Acknowledge that the change could be difficult. You won’t do yourself any favours by pretending that moving home is something you just take in your stride. Anticipate all the things that are going to be different such as new neighbours, different schools or clubs, living with your partner for the first time maybe. Take some time to think how you might feel about them.
  5. Create your new home. It may take weeks to unpack your boxes, but do one or two things to immediately make your new space feel like a home: Stand up some favourite photographs or make the bed with your favourite bedding. Then recognize that it will take time to settle in.
