Selective Licensing Update

The council met an angry crowd at the latest “Landlord’s Forum”. They claimed to have received only 200 response from landlords versus 400 from tenants. Martin Ransom, PACE branch manager was there, and he pointed out that they had 80 from us alone. The council speaker admitted that they had counted that as only one response in their stated "200 responses".

There followed a question and answer session which left many of the landlords present dissatisfied. We are concerned that the council seems to be in favour of imposing this extra burden on landlords. The council will be publishing their decision in January but we are actively agitating against it as part of a group with the Eastern Landlords Association.

The council have decided not to hold another meeting despite requests from many landlords, agents and landlord associations saying “the Council considers that all those who may be affected by the proposal have received sufficient consultation” and that “In light of the above, once the significant volume of responses from the consultation have been coordinated and analysed, a recommendation will be put forward to our Members for consideration. This report will be publicly available and Cabinet meetings are open to the public to attend”. We will attend those meetings on behalf of our landlord clients.
